چکیده

The scattering probabilities of hot excitons in narrow quantum wells (QWs) are obtained. The exciton-phonon matrix element is considered by using an envelope function Hamiltonian approach in the strong quantization limit where the QW width is smaller than the exciton bulk Bohr radius. The Fröhlich-like interaction is taken into account and the contribution of the confined and interface modes to the scattering probability are calculated as a function of quantum well width, electron and hole effective masses, and in-plane center-of-mass kinetic energy. Interand intra-subband excitonic transitions are discussed in term of the phonon scalar potential selection rules. It is shown that even parity electrostatic potential states for confined and interface modes give the main contribution to the excitonic scattering rate. The consequences of exciton relaxation and scattering probability present for the multiphonon resonance Raman scattering in narrow QWs are briefly discussed. Typeset using REVTEX

Stimulated scattering of indirect excitons in coupled quantum wells: signature of a degenerate Bose-gas of excitons.

We observe and analyze strongly nonlinear photoluminescence kinetics of indirect excitons in GaAs/AlGaAs coupled quantum wells at low bath temperatures, > or = 50 mK. The long recombination lifetime of indirect excitons promotes accumulation of these Bose particles in the lowest energy states and allows the photoexcited excitons to cool down to temperatures where the dilute 2D gas of indirect e...

Quantum Monte Carlo treatment of elastic exciton-exciton scattering

We calculate cross sections for low energy, elastic, bulk, s-wave exciton-exciton scattering within the single-band effective mass approximation. Unlike previous theoretical approaches, we give a complete, nonperturbative treatment of the four-particle scattering problem. Diffusion Monte Carlo is used to calculate the essentially exact energies of scattering states, from which phase shifts are ...

Exciton - exciton interactions in quantum wells . Optical properties and energy and spin relaxation

The gas of interacting excitons in quantum wells is studied. We obtain the Hamiltonian of this gas by the projection of the electron-hole plasma Hamiltonian to exciton states and an expansion in a small density. Matrix elements of the exciton Hamiltonian are rather sensitive to the geometry of the heterostructure. The mean field approximation of the exciton Hamiltonian gives the blue shift and ...

Exciton condensation in coupled quantum wells

Bound electron–hole pairs—excitons—are Bose particles with small mass. Exciton Bose–Einstein condensation is expected to occur at a few degrees Kelvin—a temperature many orders of magnitude higher than for atoms. Experimentally, an exciton temperature well below 1 K is achieved in coupled quantum well (CQW) semiconductor nanostructures. In this contribution, we review briefly experiments that s...

Resonant Rayleigh scattering of exciton-polaritons in multiple quantum wells.

A theoretical concept of resonant Rayleigh scattering (RRS) of exciton-polaritons in multiple quantum wells (QWs) is presented. The optical coupling between excitons in different QWs can strongly affect the RRS dynamics, giving rise to characteristic temporal oscillations on a picosecond scale. Bragg and anti-Bragg arranged QW structures with the same excitonic parameters are predicted to have ...
